Rittinger, Peter von, b. Novy Jičín, Czech Republic (then Neutitschein), Jan. 23, 1811, 
d. Vienna, Dec. 7, 1872, inventor, mining expert. Pioneer in 
ore-dressing techniques, constructed the first water-pressure engine; 
from 1840 in civil service (from 1850 in Vienna), then administrative 
head of the state domains and forests and of mines.
