Rosenthal, Friedrich, b. Vienna, July 20, 1885,
d. Auschwitz concentration camp (Poland), after Aug. 21, 1942, theatre
historian, dramatic adviser, director. From 1920 husband of the dancer
G. Bodenwieser; 1910-1912 dramatic adviser at the Grand-Ducal Court
National Theatre in Mannheim, 1913-1929 dramatic adviser and director
(classic German authors, popular plays) at the Volkstheater in Vienna,
1920 established the first national travelling theatre in Austria;
1927-1931 lectureship in drama history at the Academy for Music and
the Performing Arts in Vienna, 1932-1938 dramatic adviser, artistic
secretary and director at the Burgtheater; 1938 emigration to France,
arrested by the Gestapo in 1942.
