!!!Rudolff, Christoff

Rudolff, Christoff, b. Jawor, Poland (then Jauer), 1500 (?), 
d. Vienna, 1545, mathematician. Studied under Grammateus in Vienna. 
Taught privately, not at a university. Was an eminent arithmetical 
genius and major contributor to the advancement of algebra and 
arithmetics. He simplified equations with unknown factors and 
developed a modern set of symbols; introduced the radical sign for 
square roots.

ziffer und den zalpfennigen, 1526; Exempelbuechlein, 1530.
