Saeusenstein, Lower Austria, village in the district of Melk, alt. 
253 m, situated on the southern bank of the Danube, cadastral 
community of the municipality of Ybbs an der Donau. - The Saeusenstein 
tunnel, finished in 1994, runs from Sarling to Krummnussbaum. - Former 
Cistercian abbey (founded in 1334, dissolved in 1789); a side chapel 
of the former abbey church, which burned down around 1800, has been 
preserved; late Baroque parish church (1765), interior stucco work by 
W. Kirschner and A. F. Stolz (1770), ceiling frescoes by J. Bergl 
(1767), high altar painting by P. Troger (1746); the former abbey 
building (1703-1760), an imposing Baroque structure, is now a castle.
