Soelden, Tirol, municipality in the district of Imst, alt. 
1,368 m, population 2,738, area 466.88 km%%sup 2/%, winter 
sports resort (2.022.907 overnight stays) situated in the Upper 
Oetztal Valley, including the towns  Obergurgl and Untergurgl, 
Soelden, Hochsoelden, Vent and Zwieselstein, the largest district in 
Austria; summer skiing areas on Rettenbach Glacier and Tiefenbach 
Glacier, connected by a road tunnel to form a vast skiing region. - 
Customs and border station, Freizeitarena Soelden (sports centre and 
multi-purpose hall), Gaislach sledge run, cable railway to Gaislacher 
Kogel Mountain (alt. 3,056 m) and to Giggijoch Pass (alt. 
2,520 m), numerous chair-lifts and mountain refuges. Late Gothic 
parish church in Rettenbach (documented mention in 1288, altered in 
1521) with ceiling paintings and murals, Baroque decorations; ornate 
iron crosses in the cemetery; parish church in Vent (1862) with 
Baroque altar from Schnals.
