698 m, population 3,000 (1981: population 2,675), area
45.94 km%%sup 2/%, bi-seasonal tourism (501,225 overnight stays)
in the "Soellandl" region (comprises the municipalities
Soell, Scheffau and Ellmau) situated at the southern foot of the
Wilder Kaiser Mountains, northeast of Woergl. - Sports and recreation
centre, single-rope cableway ascending from Soell to Hochsoell, Soell
passenger ropeway, Soell-Stockach power plant (formerly Kaiserwerk,
i.e. owned by the emperor, established in 1904, 13,285 MWh,
supplied by the lake Hintersteiner See at the foot of the Wilder
Kaiser Mountains); cement works, meat wholesaling. - Baroque parish
church (1766-1769) with magnificant Rococo decoration, vault paintings
and high altar painting (1770) by C. A. Mayr, Stampfanger chapel
in Baroque style (before 1674); inn with faade paintings (around 1770)
by Mayr; pilgrimage chapel Stampfangergraben 1674, octagonal
centralised building; Moorsee lake is nearby.
