b. Wieselburg (Lower Austria), Sept. 10, 1899, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 22, 1982, poet, narrative writer, essayist. Initially 
a secondary school teacher in Klosterneuburg, from 1934 free-lance 
writer. Wrote poetry in the tradition of Rilke, Christian conservative 
attitudes, in the 1930s adapted a nationalist stance. Editor of 
numerous anthologies of poetry 1930-1935. Was the central figure of 
the group of poets called "Die Gruppe".
