Sachwalter (legal representative - Austriacism), a person appointed by 
a court who represents a person mentally or physically incapacitated 
in legal matters; appointment by application or ex officio. The scope 
of the representation depends on the state of health of the person 
represented, who has no legal capacity (to contract) within the scope 
of this representation (exceptions: minor transactions in everyday 
life).
