d. Vienna, Sept. 22, 1975, composer, conductor, poet. 1929-1945 
kapellmeister at the Burgtheater, 1945-1954 director of the Vienna  
State Opera, 1956-1963 of the  Volksoper in Vienna. Composed mainly 
for the stage in the late Romantic tradition; numerous awards.
