!!!Sattler, Johann Michael

Sattler, Johann Michael, b. Herzogenburg (Lower Austria), Sept. 28, 1786, 
d. Mattsee (Salzburg), Sept. 28, 1847, painter. Studied at the Vienna 
Academy, worked in Salzburg from 1819. His main work is a gigantic 
panorama (5 m in diameter) of the city of Salzburg, created 1825-1829, 
(assisted by F.  Loos and J. J.  Schindler), presenting a 
complete view of the city and of the surrounding areas with utmost 
topographic accuracy. S. exhibited this in many European cities; it 
can now be seen in the lift arrival hall at Moenchsberg mountain. His 
son Hubert S. (1817-1904) was also a painter, he created e.g. 
"cosmoramas" of Paris, London, Vienna and New York.

altarpiece "Hl. Familie" in St. Sebastian´s 
Church in Salzburg; landscapes and portraits in the Salzburg museum 
Carolino Augusteum and in the Hotel Braeu in Lofer.
