b. Bregenz (Vorarlberg), July 24, 1946; politician with the Austrian 
People's Party (OeVP). Graduated in law; from 1979 a representative in 
the provincial parliament of Vorarlberg and from 1986 chairman of the 
OeVP in Vorarlberg. 1990-1997 governor in Vorarlberg, since 1997 head 
of the provincial government of Vorarlberg.
