!!!Schöffel, Josef

b. Brno, Czech Republic (then Bruenn), July 29, 1832, 
d. Moedling (Lower Austria), Feb. 7, 1910, journalist, politician. 
Conservationist, prevented the deforestation of the  Vienna Woods with 
articles in the "Wiener Tagblatt" between 1870 and 1872. As mayor of 
Moedling 1873-1882 he induced J.  Hyrtl to found an orphanage, 
organised the provincial road system as a member of the Lower Austrian 
provincial committee, and introduced social measures (140 food 
dispensaries for travelling journeymen), organised charities for 
paupers and founded a youth custody centre in Korneuburg.
