b. Vienna, Jan. 9, 1807, 
d. Vienna, Oct. 30, 1881. Railway engineer. When his teacher 
F. A. von  Gerstner resigned he became the supervisor of the 
construction of the horse-traction railroads between Linz and Ceske 
Budejovice (1829-1832) and between Linz and Gmunden (1834/1835); he 
constructed the Vienna-Gloggnitz railway in 1840, was its director 
from 1841-1853, and subsequently constructed further lines in Lower 
Austria; built the first Austrian railway car and locomotive factory 
in Vienna in 1839.
