b. Vienna, Dec. 24, 1952. Priest, 1986-1988 assistant of the 
director of the Caritas charity organisation of the Archdiocese of 
Vienna, 1988-1995 director of the Caritas of the Archdiocese of 
Vienna, 1991-1995 president of  Caritas Austria, 1995-1999 vicar 
general of the Archdiocese of Vienna; since 1999 university chaplain 
of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and 
parish priest of Probstdorf (Lower Austria); committed fighter for the 
cause of refugees, vehement critic of Austrian policy on those seeking 
political asylum and one of the initiators of the campaign Neighbour 
in Need ( Nachbar in Not).
