People's Party, OeVP). 1968-1975 Secretary of the parliamentary group 
of the OeVP, 1975-1991 secretary-general of the Oesterreichischer 
Wirtschaftsbund (Association of Austrian Entrepreneurs), 1979-1989, 
1990, 1994, 1996 and 1999-2000 Member of the Nationalrat (1999-2000 
also chairman of the parliamentary OeVP), 1989-1995 Federal Minister 
of Economic Affairs, and from 1995-2000 Foreign Minister and 
Vice-Chancellor; Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria since 
2000; since 1995 Party Head of the  Oesterreichische Volkspartei 
(OeVP).
