Schalle, Veit, b. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), Oct. 24, 1942, 
manager. In the early 1970s managing director of the food retailer 
Merkur-Markt; since 1988 executive manager of the Billa food-retailing 
group; since 1979 chairman of the board of the BML holding company, 
which controls the retail companies Billa, Merkur, Mondo and Tante 
Emma in Austria.
