Scharff, Anton, b. Vienna, June 10, 1845, 
d. Brunn am Gebirge (Lower Austria), July 5, 1903, medal-maker of the 
Ringstrassen period. 1882 head, 1896 director of the Vienna 
Engravers´ Academy. As a characteristic representative of the 
late historical pictorial movement S. created numerous medals and 
plaques of supreme quality and worked for prominent foreign customers 
(Munich, London). 1887 created the medallions portraying the imperial 
couple for the loggia of the Burgtheater.
