Schattendorf, Burgenland, municipality in the district of Mattersburg, 
alt. 256 m, pop. 2,509, area 12.12 km%%sup 2/%, situated 
east of the Marzer Kogel mountain (388 m) near the Hungarian 
border. - Customs station; textile industry. - Baroque parish church 
(1700-1707) with a beautiful altar painting, colourful stucco 
decorations and carved figure (1719). The events that took place in 
Schattendorf on January 30, 1927 ( Schattendorf Trial) led to the  
July Revolt in 1927.
