Schatz, Josef, b. Imst (Tyrol), March 3, 1871, 
d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), March 23, 1950, philologist. 1905-1912 professor 
at Lemberg(Lvív) University, Ukraine, from 1912 at Innsbruck 
University. Pioneer in dialectology, concentrated on research into the 
dialects of Tyrol ("Die tirolische Mundart", 1903; Dictionary of 
Tyrolean dialects, 2 vols., 1955/56).
