!!!Schatz, Otto Rudolf

Schatz, Otto Rudolf, b. Vienna, Jan. 18, 1900, 
d. Vienna, April 26, 1961, painter and graphic artist. 1918-1920 
studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts under O.  Strnad et 
al.; his woodcuts of scenes taken from industry and the daily life of 
workers appeared in Social Democratic publications; most important 
illustrator of the association of book printers "Buechergilde 
Gutenberg", acquainted with the working people´s poet J.  
Luitpold. 1934 ban on publications for the Buechergilde, 1938 banned 
from writing, 1944/45 concentration camp; after his release returned 
to work in Vienna.
