!!!Schauspielhaus, das

Schauspielhaus, Das, small theatre in the 9th district in Vienna, 
built in 1978 for H.  Gratzer and his ensemble 
"Theater-Werkstatt". Gratzer headed the theatre, then known 
as "das Schauspielhaus Wien" until 1986; in 1987-1990 it provided the 
stage for the theatre troupe "Der  Kreis" led by G.  Tabori, 
and was taken over again by Gratzer in 1990. Mostly concentrates on 
first performances and contemporary Austrian drama. The stage, 
designed in an unconventional manner, encourages innovative acting and 
scenery and the theatre promotes unknown playwrights.
