b. Lichtenhof (municipality of St. Stefan ob Stainz, Styria), Feb. 18, 1842, 
d. Vienna, March 28, 1924, theologian. 1878-1894 professor of moral 
theology in St. Poelten; as a politician he opposed liberalism; 
co-founder of the Christian Socialist party (mobilised young clergymen 
to support the party in Western Lower Austria), member of the Landtag 
in Lower Austria and of the Reichsrat, 1919 retired from politics; 
also worked as a political journalist.
