Scheifling, Styria, market town in the district of Murau, alt. 
762 m, pop. 1,616, area 15.36 km%%sup 2/%, situated in the 
upper Mur valley north-west of the Perchauer Sattel pass. - Two 
materials depots (Department of Agriculture of the Provincial 
Government of Styria, Forestry Service for Mountain Torrent and 
Avalanche Control), road maintenance department; construction 
companies, steel construction industry (trapezoidal sheeting, 
mechanical and systems engineering), transportation companies, fulling 
mill and organ maker. - Parish church with Romanesque core and Baroque 
aisles and nave, high altar with statues (around 1737) by B. 
Prandtstaetter, Gothic reliefs (around 1490) and late Gothic statue of 
the Virgin Mary; plague chapel (1715), late Gothic wayside chapel; 
ruins of Schachenturm Castle; old taverns (one of which was the former 
hunting lodge of Emperor Maximilian I (around 1500).
