!!!Schemerl von Leythenbach, Josef

Schemerl von Leythenbach, Josef, b. Ljubljana, Slovenia (then Laibach), March 26, 1754, 
d. Vienna, Jan. 28, 1844, architectural engineer, director of road 
construction in Ljubljana. Came to Vienna before 1799, where he was 
responsible until 1803 for the extension of the Wiener Neustadt canal; 
from 1809 until his death head of the imperial construction council. 
1815-1818 the Polytechnikum technical school (several structural 
alterations, today University of Technology) was built under his 
management. S. v. L. wrote several publications on road 
construction and hydraulic engineering, for which he was regarded a 
leading expert.
