Scherpe, Johann (Hans), b. Vienna, Dec. 15, 1855, 
d. Vienna, Feb. 15, 1929, sculptor. Representative of the younger 
generation of the "Ringstrassen" period, known mainly for his 
architectural sculptures and monuments. His works showed an increasing 
calmness in their design characteristic of the transition to 
modernism.

Vienna: sepulchre for L. Anzengruber at the Central Cemetery, 
1893; monument on Schmerlingplatz, 1905; monuments for R. v. Alt, 
1912, and G. Coch, 1913.
