!!!Schifffahrt

Shipping: Austria primarily uses the Danube for shipping (
Donau-Dampfschiffahrts-Gesellschaft, Danube Ports, Danube Shipping)
and Lakes Constance, Achensee and Wolfgangsee, etc. for Lake
Navigation. In 1993 a total of 2,897,267 passengers were transported
on Austria's lakes. Ocean shipping ( Oesterreichischer Lloyd) has to
rely on foreign ports. Austria's shipping fleet consists of 32 ships
which are able to carry 290,000 tonnes. All in all shipping only
makes up a very modest portion of the Austrian transportation sector.
With 6.5 million tonnes, the shipping of goods via inland
waterways accounted for only 4 % of the entire amount of
transported goods in 1993. When the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal is
completed, shipping on the Danube is expected to increase.
