b. Andělská Hora, Czech Republic (then Engelsberg), Aug. 19, 1805, 
d. Vienna, May 3, 1861. Genre painter and portraitist. Studied at the 
Vienna Academy promoted by P.  Fendi, of whom he was a private student 
and whom he succeeded as an artist and copper engraver at the Imperial 
Mint and Antiques Office (k. k. Muenz- und Antikenkabinett). Painted 
simple scenes from the lives of ordinary people and from the everyday 
life of soldiers; representative of the Vienna school of genre 
painters.
