!!!Schindler, Carl

b. Vienna, Oct. 23, 1821,
d. Laab im Walde (Lower Austria), Aug. 22, 1842. Painter of military
genre scenes ("Soldaten Schindler"), son of Johann Josef Schindler.
Studied at the Vienna Academy and was a private pupil of P. Fendi.
Interrupted his studies several times because of poor health.
Excellent water colours (esp. water colour sketches); his subjects
reflect his attempts to merge the soldier genre with the bourgeois or
rustic genre. Strong influence on J. F. Treml and A. von
Pettenkofen.
