b. Graz (Styria), March 9, 1812, d Oberkindberg (Styria), Jan. 9, 
1886. Popular composer and virtuoso flautist. Pupil of T. Boehm; his 
concert tour in 1839 gained him fame in the whole of Europe; then 
civil servant in Styria. Promoted the foundation of a General German 
Singers' Association (1860).
