!!!Schmalix, Hubert
b. Graz (Styria), Dec. 17, 1952, painter. Studied at the Academy of
Fine Arts in Vienna from 1971-1976; achieved early international fame
as a representative of the "New Wild Ones" (exhibitions at the Tate
Gallery in London in 1983, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in
1984) and has since been one of the leading representatives of
contemporary art in Austria. In contrast to his early work, he
developed a more discreet style in the mid 1980s, while still using
intensive colours. Has been professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in
Vienna since 1997.
