Schmidt, Erich, b. Vienna, Aug. 14, 1943. Studied law, went into 
politics (Austrian Social Democratic Party, SPOe). 1979-1983 and 
1987-1988 member of the Nationalrat, 1983-1986 Staatssekretaer in the 
Federal Ministry of Trade and Industry, 1986-1987 Federal Minister of 
Agriculture and Forestry, then businessmen; got into difficulties 
because of his commitments in Eastern Europe.
