!!!Schmutzer, Ferdinand

Schmutzer, Ferdinand, b. Vienna, May 21, 1870, 
d. Vienna, Oct. 26, 1928. Landscape painter and etcher, son of the 
sculptor Ferdinand S. the elder. Studied at the Vienna Academy, 
1894-1896 study visit to the Netherlands, which had a long-term 
influence of his work; also influenced by the works of A. von  
Pettenkofen, Travels to France, Italy, Bohemia and Hungary. Member of 
the Vienna Secession, whose president he was 1914-1917, from 1908 
taught graphic arts at the Vienna Academy, esp. known for portrait 
etchings of members of Viennese Society.
