Participated in the Austrian expedition to Brazil in 1817-21; court gardener in Vienna from 1828, from 1845 director of the Court Gardens and the Imperial ''menagerie; ''in charge of the improvement of Schoenbrunn Gardens, parts of which were laid out in the English garden tradition.
