d. Horlyci, Poland (then Gorlice), May 3, 1915, killed in action. 
Geologist and paleontologist. 1901-1915 at the Geological National 
Institute (Geologische Reichsanstalt); geological field work, i.a. in 
Dalmatia, paleontological work on foraminifers and basic research on 
otoliths, esp. of those of the Tertiary period. Regarded as the 
Austrian pioneer of micropaleontology.
