!!!Schuhplattler

Schuhplattler, also called "Plattler", folk dance from 
Alpine regions and southern Germany, danced in ¾ time, 
originally a courting dance, danced by individual pairs. The boy 
dances around the girl, rhythmically hitting mainly his thighs, calves 
and soles and performing various jumps and turns in time to the music 
(laendler). Since the end of the 19%%sup th/%  century also a group 
dance in standardised form; has undergone various changes in the music 
and choreography (often only danced by men).
