Schools, Financing of: Specific legal entities bear the costs for 
establishing and maintaining schools. The federal authorities are 
responsible for the financing of all public schools, i.e. schools 
covering compulsory education (elementary schools, Hauptschule 
secondary schools, schools for children with special needs, 
Polytechnischer Lehrgang and vocational schools); public residences 
provided for pupils of schools covering compulsory education, public 
kindergartens and day-care centres are financed by the provinces or, 
depending on the legal provisions of the individual provinces, by 
municipalities or groups of municipalities; other regulations govern 
the financing of  Private Schools.
