!!!Schulmuseum
School Museums. A collection of teaching aids and school furniture and
fittings was first presented in exhibition form in the 19%%sup th/%
century. The Austrian School Museum, founded in Vienna in 1903, also
took historical aspects into account, but had to close down soon after
the decline of the monarchy. Interest in the history of education and
schools was revived in the Second Republic, and the various records
and items of interest have been integrated into existing museums
during the last few decades (e.g. in Spittal an der Drau, Stuebing,
Texing, Jois). In some cases, new museums were founded (e.g. in
Lockenhaus). Austria´s most important school museum at present
is at Michelstetten in Lower Austria.
