b. Vienna, April 15, 1843, 
d. Vienna, July 18, 1903. chemist. Studied chemistry and 
ancillary sciences at the Vienna Polytechnical Institute from 1864 to 
1866. From 1872 taught agricultural chemical technology at the newly 
founded University of Agricultural Sciences ''(Hochschule fuer 
Bodenkultur),'' from 1875 also taught chemical technology in forestry, 
Full Professor from 1877 onwards, rector of the university on several 
occasions. Specialised in particular in coal analysis and brewing 
technology (from 1895 Director of the Brewing Academy).
