Schwarzenau, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Zwettl, 
alt. 498 m, pop. 1,714 (pop. 1,929 in 1981), area 
28.13 km%%sup 2/%, on the River Thaya, north west of Allentsteig, 
in the north of the Waldviertel region. - Neo-Gothic parish church 
(consecrated 1903); Renaissance palace (16%%sup th/%  century, 
one section reconstructed after a fire in 1835, today used for 
cultural events) with park, marble hall and rich stucco work 
(16%%sup th/%  century); palace chapel (16%%sup th/% 
 century) with Baroque stucco reliefs (1732) by G. B. 
d´ Allio, sundial on the south tower.
