Schwertberg, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Perg, alt. 
268 m, pop. 4,532, area 18.75 km%%sup 2/%, situated at the 
entry of the River Aist into the Danube plain. - Volkshilfe welfare 
organisation; production of machines (die-casting), plastics 
processing industry, wool spinning mill, cardboard factory, forwarding 
agency. - Gothic parish church (late 15%%sup th/%  century), enlarged 
in 1913/14, Baroque interior; cavalry church (1689, by C. A. 
Carlone); Schwertberg Castle, formerly a moated fortress (documented 
mention in 1287), enlarged in 1608 by A. Canevale, courtyard, corner 
towers, library, Chinese chamber, falcon cage next to castle keep; the 
castle was once under the control of the robber baron B. Zeller and 
the rebel G. E. von Tschernembl stayed there during the 
Reformation Era; Friedegg Villa; Windegg ruins.
