!!!Sedlnitzky, Josef Graf

b. Opavice, Czech Republic (then Troplowitz), Jan. 8, 1778, 
d. Baden (Lower Austria), June 21, 1855. Civil servant. President 
of the Supreme Police and Censorship Office in Vienna from 1817-1848 
(responsible for the whole monarchy except Hungary and the military 
border); in accordance with the policy of emperor Francis I and 
Count C. W. L.  Metternich used an extensive network of secret agents. 
Thought that strict measures were justified for maintaining public 
order and upholding absolute monarchy and met with strong opposition 
from the liberal forces of the  Revolution of 1848.
