originally worked as cultural editor, 1946-1951 Secretary-General of 
the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft, 1954-1961 commercial manager of 
the Vienna  State Opera, director from 1976-1982 and 1984-1986; in the 
interval director of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.
