b. Koengetried (Germany), Oct. 9, 1919, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 24, 1988. Kammersaengerin* (soprano); wife of W.  
Schneiderhan. Together with E.  Schwarzkopf was one of the leading 
singers of the post-war era; 1943-1976 at the Vienna State Opera, from 
1946 at the Salzburg Festival; world tours. Achieved fame mainly on 
account of her Mozart and Strauss performances and interpretations of 
songs; awarded the Mozart Medal in 1953.
