!!!Seifried von Mahrenberg

Seifried von Mahrenberg,
d. Prague (Czech Republic), 1272. Descendant of a noble family
from Carinthia and Styria, was arrested by Přemysl
Otakar II of Bohemia because of his role during Bohemia's
take-over of Carinthia and brutally tortured and murdered in Prague in
1271/72. As a consequence, Otakar II lost the support of the
Styrian and Carinthian aristocracy; the assassination of Otakar during
the Battle of Duernkrut in 1278 is said to have been an act of blood
vengeance committed by S.'s nephew Otto von Emmerberg.
