b. Vienna, June 6, 1944. Egyptologist and historian, museum 
director. 1971-1978 assistant at the Freie Universitaet Berlin 
(Institute of Egyptology), 1978/79 at the Oesterreichisches 
Archaeologisches Institut (Cairo department), 1981-1983 assistant 
professor at the University of Constance, 1983-1985 director of the 
City Museums of Constance, 1985-1990 director of the 
Oberoesterreichisches Landesmuseum in Linz, since 1990 
Director-General of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
