!!!Selleny, Joseph

b. Vienna-Meidling, Feb. 3, 1824, 
d. Vienna-Inzersdorf, May 22, 1875. Landscape painter and 
lithographer. Studied at the Vienna Academy, trip to Rome in 1854/55, 
journey around the world on board the Austrian frigate "Novara" from 
1857-1859, during which he did numerous sketches of exotic subjects 
which he later used for his paintings; from this time marine paintings 
were his preference. Designs for the park of Miramar castle near 
Trieste and for the Wiener Stadtpark (1862) as well as mural 
decorations of the Imperial Villa in Bad Ischl (1873). Died in mental 
derangement.
