Ski Industry: The Austrian ski industry originated approximately 60 
years ago in small cabinet-makers´ and wheelwrights´ 
workshops where timber was used as a building material and for 
transportation purposes. A. Arnsteiner ( Blizzard), J. Fischer 
(Fischer) and A. Rohrmoser ( Atomic) started their professional 
careers in such workshops. Austrian ski manufacturers contributed a 
great deal to the emergence of the Austrian ski industry, which by the 
early 1990s had become an important industrial branch with a 50 % 
share in the world market.  Head,  Fischer and  Kneissl are also 
leading manufacturers of tennis rackets. Due to overcapacities and 
structural problems, however, many ski production companies have been 
merged, closed down or sold to foreign investors since 1995.
