Skiing Instruction: In Austria, the training of professional ski
instructors is provided by the Association of Austrian Ski Schools
(Verband der oesterreichischen Skischulen), which is headquartered in
Dalaas, Vorarlberg. Provincial ski instructors
("Landesskilehrer") have to pass several exams; only
state-approved ski instructors ("Diplomskilehrer") are
allowed to establish and run a ski school. Alpine ski instructors
("Skifuehrer") receive special training in Austria. Ski
instructors who work for non-profit organisations are trained by the
Federal Institutes for Physical Exercise in Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck,
and Linz. In Austria, skiing has been part of the school sports
curriculum since the 1960s.
