Solvay Werke (Ebensee Solvay Werke), ammonia soda production, 
established at Ebensee (Upper Austria) jointly by the 
"Association for Chemical and Metallurgical Production" 
(Aussig/Elbe) and the Belgian family enterprise, 
Solvay & Cie, in 1885. Developed into a large-scale 
enterprise with production sites in Bohemia, Galicia and Bosnia, the 
range of products was extended continuously (calcium carbonate, wood 
preserving agent, chemical building materials). After World War II 
sole ownership by the Belgian family business 
Solvay & Cie. S. A. Turnover (as of 1993) ATS 
1.8 billion, 893 employees.
