Sophie, Archduchess of Austria, b. Munich (Germany), Jan. 27, 
1805, d. Vienna, May 28, 1872, daughter of King Maximilian I 
of Bavaria, 1824 married Archduke  Franz Karl, mother of Emperor  
Franz Joseph I. S. used her great influence at court particularly 
in December 1848, when Franz Joseph I succeeded to the throne, and 
during his first years of rule.
